IAHSS Foundation Scholarship Program

This program is offered annually to support the education and career development of healthcare safety, security and emergency management leaders with financial needs. IAHSS offers several different scholarship opportunities:

The Foundation will accept scholarship applications from Sep. 1 – Dec. 1 and will announce the recipients in January.

Scholarship awards will be granted based solely on the information provided by the applicant without regard to individual demographic characteristics.

Ken and Ellie Christian Scholarship Program

The IAHSS Foundation may award up to three scholarships annually. Each scholarship will not exceed $2,000. The amount of the scholarship may vary based on applicant need, longevity/activity in IAHSS, other funding sources, and the number of scholarship awards granted by the IAHSS Foundation.


Each scholarship is for a period of one year. Successful applicants may reapply each year.

Applications containing a certified copy of current transcript, statement of financial need, and three letters of recommendation must be mailed to the IAHSS Foundation.

Eligibility:

  • Active participating members in IAHSS
  • Member must be enrolled in good standing in the accredited university or college degree program.
  • Applicant is not able to receive total tuition reimbursement from their employer. In the case of partial tuition employer reimbursement, the amount of the scholarship will not exceed the total tuition and book costs for the year.

IAHSS Foundation CHPA Scholarship

The IAHSS Foundation is dedicated to supporting the professional development of current healthcare security professionals.

This scholarship offers financial support to IAHSS members who are in leadership roles and qualify to take the Certified Healthcare Security Protection Administrator (CHPA) exam.

Scholarship recipients must apply to take the CHPA exam by June 1 of the year in which they receive the award.

Steven Gaunt Academic or CHPA Scholarship

Steven was a long-time IAHSS member and leader in healthcare security. Here are a few of his contributions to our industry, to IAHSS and to the Foundation:

  • Past International Board Member
  • Past Foundation Board Member, including Foundation President
  • Wrote many of the CHPA Study Guide Chapters
  • Served as CHPA Chapter Officer of the Northern New Jersey Chapter
  • Held leadership roles at numerous hospitals.

Sadly, Steve passed away in October 2014 while working as Director of Security at Englewood Hospital.

Robert Rusting Fund for Research and White papers

The Robert Rusting Fund is in honor of the late Robert “Bob” Rusting, editor and producer of IAHSS’s Journal of Healthcare Protection Management for 35 years until his retirement at the age of 94.

Bob assisted countless healthcare security and safety professionals in the sharing of solutions and best practices with readers who were often facing similar issues at their own organization. His dedication to our industry was only matched by his humility regarding these efforts.

The scholarship funds should be used for a whitepaper or related research for the betterment of the healthcare security and safety industry.

If interested in this scholarship, please submit a proposal to the IAHSS Foundation describing your research project or white paper and the amount being requested for approval.
